credativ attended PGConf US which took place from 03/28/2017 to 03/31/2017. The Westin Hotel in Jersey City right next to the Hudson river and the impressive skyline of New York was chosen as the venue.
The wide variety of talks and presentations by users and developers regarding PostgreSQL formed a successful contrast to the, unfortunately, very stormy and rainy weather of the metropolis. On behalf of credativ, CEO, Dr. Michael Meskes and, the techincal director of the German database support team, Bernd Helme attended. Both presented the community of their experience with PostgreSQL on the IBM POWER plattform.
Aside many interesting topics were submitted by users. Some reported on their experience migrating from a Microsoft SQL server or Oracle to PostgreSQL. Other presentations by PostgreSQL developers dealt with the improvements in PostgreSQL 10, planned improvements to the execution of queries in the free database, but also the current status of Parallel Query Execution. Particularly noteworthy were the detailed descriptions on replications and the new Logical Replication Feature by core developer Peter Eisentraut.
In his lecture pgJDBC maintainer Dave Cramer described the current state of the pgJDBC project and gave an insight into the architecture of the driver and the motivation behind latest improvements.
On Thursday the conference hosted a round table discussion with leading PostgreSQL developers to touch upon changes and features in the upcoming PostgreSQL 10.0 release. The developers gave insight into the current status of the development and their favorite features.
PGCong US once again offered a successful mix of community and business related topics and thus made an important contribution to the exchange between PostgreSQL advocates. The lectures were recorded and can be accessed at a later date on the conference website or on YouTube.
