Open Source Developer Job

Location: Rugby, UK

credativ is looking for an Open Source Developer to join our vibrant technical team. Working on Open Source projects, you will be providing customer support, bug fixing and troubleshooting in our Open Source Support Centre. Work will involve supporting existing systems, improving free software packages and deploying new technologies for customers.

  • Planning and executing work to meet customer requirements
  • Deploying and providing support for free services and solutions
  • Planning and administration of infrastructure and machines
  • Liaising with the wider free software community

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Object oriented framework development in Python /. Ruby
  • Databases: PostgreSQL / MySQL
  • Affinity with the open source community, preferably with evidence of contributions and history of communication via email, IRC and bug trackers
  • Experience in GNU/Linux system administration
  • An understanding of networking protocols, TCP/IP, encryption, computer privacy and security
  • Good spoken and written English, together with time management and project planning skills

Desirable Skills / Experience:

  • Open Object / OpenERP
  • Test-driven development
  • Knowledge of object orientated programming languages, e.g. Ruby, Python, C, C++, Java
  • HTML / CSS / Javascript / jQuery
  • Troubleshooting / debugging
  • Pair programming / code review
  • Release management experience
  • Experience in packaging for Debian, Ubuntu or RPM based distributions
  • Office applications: Libreoffice, OpenOffice.org
  • Experience of creating presentations or delivering training
  • Experience of working in a commercial setting
